US stock market closes with gains, Dow Jones rises 0.98%

The US stock market ended Tuesday’s trading with growth thanks to the strengthening of oil and gas sectors, finance, and consumer goods.
At the close of business on the New York Stock Exchange, the Dow Jones rose by 0.98%, the S&P 500 index increased by 1.30%, and the NASDAQ Composite index rose by 1.58%.
The leaders of growth among the components of the Dow Jones index at the end of today’s trading were the shares of American Express Company (NYSE: AXP), which rose by 5.82 points (3.67%) and closed at $164.56. Nike Inc’s (NYSE: NKE) quotes rose by 4.41 points (3.64%), ending the trading session at $125.61. Chevron Corp’s (NYSE: CVX) stocks rose in price by 4.73 points (3.06%), closing at $159.31.
The stocks of Intel Corporation (NASDAQ: INTC) were among the top losers, dropping by 2.40% or 0.70 points to close at 28.46. However, the shares of Amgen Inc (NASDAQ: AMGN) rose by 0.75% or 1.77 points to close at 232.95, while Procter & Gamble Company (NYSE: PG) suffered a 0.72% or 1.05-point decline to close at 144.08.
In the S&P 500 index, First Republic Bank (NYSE: FRC) stocks had the highest increase, rising by 29.56% to close at 15.78, followed by KeyCorp (NYSE: KEY) and Comerica Inc (NYSE: CMA) which gained by 9.34% and 9.11%, closing at 12.76 and 48.63, respectively.
Atmos Energy Corporation (NYSE: ATO) stocks were among the biggest losers, sliding by 4.05% to close at 110.23. Meanwhile, Consolidated Edison Inc (NYSE: ED) and Digital Realty Trust Inc (NYSE: DLR) both declined by 3.84% and 3.69%, respectively, closing at 93.19 and 97.91.
Quince Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: QNCX), Cerberus Cyber Sentinel Corp (NASDAQ: CISO), and Pear Therapeutics Inc (NASDAQ: PEAR) stocks had the most significant gains among NASDAQ Composite index components. They climbed by 71.10%, 67.87%, and 59.88%, closing at 1.44, 0.39, and 0.34, respectively.
Qutoutiao Inc (NASDAQ: QTT) stocks had the highest decline, dropping by 58.94%, a decrease of 0.42 points to close at 0.30. Altimmune Inc (NASDAQ: ALT) stocks fell by 54.67% to close at 4.95, while Check Cap Ltd (NASDAQ: CHEK) dropped by 42.24%, closing at 1.75, their historical minimum.
The New York Stock Exchange had 2339 gainers, 693 decliners, and 78 stocks barely changed. NASDAQ had 2698 gainers, 923 decliners, and 167 stocks unchanged. The CBOE Volatility Index decreased by 11.47% to close at 21.38, based on S&P 500 option trading data.
Gold futures for April delivery fell by 1.98%, or 39.20, to $1.00 an ounce. As for other commodities, WTI oil futures for May delivery increased by 2.52%, or 1.71, to $69.53 per barrel, while Brent oil futures for May delivery fell by 0.05%, or 0.04, to $75.12 per barrel.
In the Forex market, the EUR/USD pair remained mostly unchanged at 1.08, while the USD/JPY pair decreased by 0.02% to close at 132.47. Lastly, the USD index futures dropped by 0.08% to close at 102.85.
